Snuggles' Warm Blanket

Dec. 5th, 2008 01:44 pm For those who may have been wondering . . .

I'm still alive, still employed, and have not had any major medical episodes since my last posting.

I'm still riding the high generated by Thanksgiving this year, both from the family dinner that I hosted on Thursday to the friends dinner on Saturday, now a main feature of "TinyCon".

My in-laws want my recipe for gravy! Thanks, Mom, you taught me how to do it right.

And yes, when we have a bunch of fen together for the weekend, with gaming, filkers (on CD), literature and movies (available on the shelves), guests from out of town (Richard & Mary Susan), an artist guest (Wren), an art show (hey everybody, look at my latest Cheryl Storm dragon sculpture!), a kick-ass con suite (in the kitchen) with a fantastic banquet (full Thanksgiving turkey dinner) and an overflowing room block (all the beds were full, and some of the furniture), that all fits inside my house, that qualifies as a tiny con. Yay TinyCon! I hope to make this an annual tradition. 8-D

It's a good thing I'm still feeling so thankful for good food with good friends - it's making it a little easier to deal with the latest crap to deposit itself in my life - Rod lost his job last Friday, the boiler that provides heat to half the house went out (my now-unheated bedroom was down to 49F this morning - brrr!).

But I'm ok, my brother Charlie is doing well after getting a defibrillator implanted last week, and my brother John survived his recent trip to India.

Yay!

Oct. 7th, 2008 09:10 pm Even More Crap

Monday morning I had a nightmare that the world's financial markets were collapsing, commerce was coming to a complete stop, and even Kraft was laying off hundreds of employees. I then finished waking up, realized that my radio alarm was playing WBBM's twice-hourly business report, and that my workday at Kraft really was going to suck.

It did. Kraft really is laying off a lot of people. So far, I still have a job, but they aren't done yet, either. We are losing one of our three admin positions in my department alone, but one of us gets to move to another department, sortof (it's complicated, and ill-defined so far).

Tuesday morning I had a nightmare that someone was trying to force his way through my front door past me to kidnap some toddlers I was watching, and I kicked my leg out hard to keep him from getting through the door. I managed to kick out hard enough to fling myself right out of my bed - I woke up as I crashed down on my nightstand/bedside table, knocking it and a bunch of other stuff over. *OW*.

I have no idea where that dream came from. My alarm hadn't even gone off yet, so no suggestive radio stories.

Shortly after I arrived at work, my dad called to tell me that my brother's father-in-law had just died. [This is the brother in Atlanta, not the one in Niles who never calls.]

Rod still doesn't know when his location is closing; the rumors have ranged from mid-October to early January. No other site supervisor positions are currently available.

On the plus side, since I woke up when I kicked myself out of bed, the kids in my dream didn't get kidnapped.

Aug. 12th, 2008 02:12 pm For those who were wondering . . .

I'm ok - I just haven't had much time for posting. Too much time spent with the chiropractor or in bed with ice packs. I'll be fine; it's just frustrating to be told that I can't do anything that might stress my back for at least another two months. (Yes, Jacob, that's why Ben was carrying my purse, and everything else, at the aquarium. Thanks again for a great time.)

The amusing part is how the chiropractor expressed it - "Remember you are a princess - you do nothing for yourself!" If you remember my post about the 'girly sparkle shoes', you can imagine how I reacted to 'be a princess'.

Anyone want to finish my firewood rack rebuilding project for me? Edge the lawn? Turn over the compost?

*crickets chirp*

Jun. 19th, 2008 01:53 pm Now That's Optimism

There is a spider that has been persistently building a new web across our back door every day.

Reminds me of the Far Side cartoon of two spiders with a web across a playground slide, commenting something like, "If this works, we'll eat like kings!"

Jun. 4th, 2008 01:38 pm Not quite at the last minute

Gas prices, etc., are killing our budget. Anyone interested in rooming with us at DucKon and splitting the cost? We have a double/double reserved Thursday to Monday.
